A strength and conditioning program for tennis players is a specially designed system of knowledge, abilities and activities that must take into account the peculiarities, as well as many other specifics of tennis as an individual sport. Such a program requires the assessment, analysis, and treatment of all relevant and specific factors that contribute most to success in the sport.

Strength and Conditioning training in tennis is special and specific for the reason that a strength and conditioning coach for tennis players, based on a thorough knowledge of current issues, must demonstrate his ability to create in the design of the current training program

In order to succeed in this, he must have a thorough knowledge of the tennis game ,and above all: all its general and specific motor, physiological, functional and psychological requirements, adequate periodization of sports training (characteristics and dynamics of the preparatory, competitive and transitional period in tennis, block periodization, structure and different types of individual training, microcycles and mesocycles, as well as ways of establishing and maintaining sports form), supercompensation, recovery, rehabilitation methods, monitoring methods, diagnostics and prognosis of growth progression, development and raising the level of motor skills, all in relation to the specificity of the organization and system of tennis competitions.

The greatest degree of importance is a comprehensive analysis of the intensity and capacity of the realization of general and specific motor skills in tennis, in relation to the crucial factors that are the basis of its creation and the condition for the practical implementation of the conditioning program.

My tennis coaching system is based on the principles below. There are four levels of group trainings planned as well as an individual approach. All trainings are held by agreement and in sync with the requirements of tennis training.
Trainings are based on the following factors:

  • determination of individual characteristics and abilities (testing of players)
  • determining the scope and intensity of training within the microcycle and mesocycle
  • determining specific goals, tasks, methods and means of the training process
  • harmonization of tennis and fitness trainings in order to realize the set tasks of advancement
