Strength and conditioning training
for basketball players

A strength and conditioning program for basketball players should be made taking into account the uniqueness and many other specifics of basketball as a team game, that is, it should recognize, distinguish and develop those specific factors that will contribute most to success in this sport.

What determines individual strength and conditioning training in basketball is is that a strength and conditioning coach for basketball players should apply his knowledge and creative ability to develop, design and implement training programs in practice.

Therefore, he must have a thorough knowledge of the basketball game, and above all: its specific motor, physiological, functional, methodical, psychological requirements, as well as the principles and regularities of periodization of sports training: characteristics of the preparatory, competitive and transitional period in basketball, block periodization, structure and different types of individual training, microcycles and mesocycles, as well as ways of establishing and maintaining sports form), supercompensation, recovery, methods and techniques rehabilitation, monitoring of progression, and all this in relation to the organization, dynamics and system of competition in basketball.

An approach to the analysis of the intensity and capacity of the manifestation of general and specific motor skills in relation to the crucial factors that determine its creation and practical implementation is indispensable.
